About
Hello Keith, how are you today?
I am great, thank you for asking.
How long have you worked as a Technical Writer?
I have worked in this field for 15 years now.
How did you decide to become a Technical Writer?
I first discovered the joy of writing in college, at my Alma Mater, Willamette University. I majored in Philosophy and also served the campus as News Editor of the student newspaper. After working as a Software Trainer for several years in Brazil, I decided to merge my writing skills with my professional interests in computer software and technology. So, this is what led to my interest in technical writing.
What do you enjoy documenting the most?
I enjoy writing about both Windows and Web applications (computer software applications).
What is your position on open-source software?
Open-source software is great, especially when there is no proprietary application that can perform a certain task. At times like these, I turn to open-source applications. However, there are still some great proprietary applications that the open-source movement has yet to catch.
What is your educational background?
Bachelor of Science in Philosophy from Willamette University (Salem, Oregon)
Computer Programming Certificate from the Computer Learning Center (Boston, Massachusetts)
Masters of Science in Education from Nova Southeastern University (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)
What software programs do you use the most as a Technical Writer?
1. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Visio)
2. Microsoft Visual Studio (C# code and VB.NET code)
3. Adobe Technical Communication Suite (Captivate, RoboHelp)
4. WordPress Content Management System (CMS)
5. Diverse Utility Programs for specific technical documentation tasks
