As a Technical Writer, there are many online resources available to me. The following tools, or software programs, & websites, I personally consider to be my “top-ten”. If you are a writer, I encourage you to scrutinize carefully the tools you use, because they will directly affect your productivity and overall output:
1. Microsoft Office: Microsoft has made MONUMENTAL progress with its office suite.
2. Microsoft Visio: Quality flowcharts and diagrams augment your text dramatically.
3. Corel Draw: Need good tools to improve photos or diagrams? Corel Draw is all you need.
4. Zip It Free: It is best to zip e-mailed files to protect them. This software is both great & free.
5. Wikipedia: As you write, you need to make sure that your content is correct, especially when referring to existing products, people, or things that are “well established on the market”. Wikipedia is simply awesome, and you will be amazed at its content.
6. Wiktionary: Like Wikipedia, Wiktionary is a great online resource for writers, especially to help you make sure your word-understanding AND spelling are both on-track.
7. Photoshop: This is a great software to use when professionally editing digital images. My mom is a real expert in Photoshop, and loves working with this program.
8. Freelance Folder website: My good friend Jon Phillips of Montreal, Canada, is the mastermind behind this simply fantastic website, that is a great online resource for freelancers, alias, writers in general. Post after post on Freelance Folder will amaze you - as it has amazed me.
9. Ghost Blogging website: My good friend Ritu Pant, a professional freelancer, is the brains and power behind this tremendous website that unites writers with writing opportunities. Keep up the great work, Ritu!
10. Emma Alvarez website: My good friend Emma Alvarez, a graphic designer from Spain, posts absolutely enlightening articles and suggestions on her website. She covers an amazing spectrum of important writing and graphic concepts, from icons to working with domain name servers. Well done, Emma!
