View Blog RSS Feeds with IE
Written by Keith Johnson - Posted on November 14th, 2009
Because I am a blogger, I have Google Analytics to inform me of important facts about my visitors, including the Operating System (OS) they use on their computer – such as Microsoft Windows or Apple OS, as well as the browser they use to surf the web. The vast majority of visitors use the Mozilla Firefox browser and indeed I use this browser too. However, to read blogs to which I have subscribed, I still prefer to use the Internet Explorer (IE) from Microsoft. Let me tell you why: it is really easy! Just follow these simple steps.
One. Open your Internet Explorer (IE) and go to the website or blog whose RSS feed you would like to receive. This is denoted by a little orange box at the top of the browser, usually located on the upper right hand corner. Just click once on this orange box icon.
Two. The screen will change IF the website or blog has a RSS feed that you can request subscription. If it does, then the screen will change to an off-white color with the message “Name of Website” and “You are viewing a feed that contains frequently updated content.” Click on the Subscribe to this Link text that is displayed.
Three. A pop-up window displays confirming the name of the Website/Feed and to which folder or location it is to be sent to your browser. Simply click the Subscribe button.
Four. A confirmation message is displayed inside your browser saying “You have successfully subscribed to this feed.” Well done; now let’s see the feed from within the Internet Explorer (IE).
Five. Inside your Internet Explorer (IE), use this MENU path: TOOLS>EXPLORER BARS>FEEDS. Your browser will display a menu bar on the left side with the new feed you just selected. Click on this feed listing, and its contents will display in the right pane.
Six. Congratulations – you now understand how to use IE to read your RSS feed subscriptions. I know there will be criticism of this blog post saying I am a bit outdated and that I should be using Google Reader. OK, I accept that criticism, in fact, Google Reader is cool too. However, IE still serves a noble purpose in this respect of being a viewer for all of your many RSS feeds. Read on!
Cheers,
Keith
