What’s In a Name?
Written by Keith Johnson - Posted on January 3rd, 2009
As 2009 begins, I ask that you consider this valuable insight: the name of your blog or business makes a big difference. There are actually e-books that cover this topic and businesses that have made lots of money by buying and re-selling domain names. This is not something new, but rather a foundation principle upon which you can build a successful business or website.
How do you choose a name? You need to get away from the stress of your life, either on a vacation or weekend getaway, that is my advice. Have lots of fun and there will come a time when you will look up at the stars or the ocean or the mountains, and your intuitive mind will reveal to you the best name that will carry you the greatest distance. This is how I chose the names for my two blogs. Great Documents is about writing – blogging, technical documents, and all such things. OM Meditation is about meditation and the symbol of OM. Simple, easy to remember, easy to type into the browser address bar, and easy to say.
So, a name has alot of power. It can make or break your business idea and or venture. What I am telling you here is textbook information, and is probably taught in Business 101 at many colleges and universities. However, it is good to hear this from someone already in his or her mid-life stage and who has around twenty-years of work experience logged, if you will. A name can inspire, attract, or repel someone from even considering entering your business or website. It is that important. Remember that life is dualistic and has two sides: the apparent and hidden. The apparent side of your business is what others perceive and experience, alias, the name. The hidden side is presented after they become your customer and you render your product or service.
All The Best,
Keith

@ All My Subscribers and Readers: Thanks for your emails and contacts via the Contact Form! Yes, a name really makes a difference, because you offer web surfers the chance to actually type in your URL in the browser address bar, as opposed to having to search for it with Google or another search engine, locate it and then click on the link. There are many people who might tell you otherwise, however, a name is always important when it comes to achieving success.
